about

(Note about lyrics: In 1917 the freighter the SS Mont Blanc, laden with dynamite bound for the war in Europe, collided with the SS Imo near Halifax harbor. The collision resulted in what would remain until the Trinity tests the greatest human caused explosion, killing thousands of people on water and on land. This song is not really about that though.)

lyrics

Words:

A bedsheet ghost
Haunts the island and
Keeps his watch from the trees
On a tiny craft a torn felt cap
Crowns the king of all the seas

Born when the Mont Blanc burned
And the sailors all died
He was left with
Some stranger's eyes

There's no reward hidden in
The cruel ocean where you play
Just dead men with pearls for eyes
Who stare in shock where they lay

Now your home is just a dream
But you don't sleep anymore
There's only sleep on
The ocean's floor

Little boys with bloodstained hands
Cast their shadow on your door
Asking won't you come out
To the war

Now a kind old man
With a rowboat and
A cyanide pill history
Always kept his secret safe
That he died in '43
When the fire fell like rain
And the rain would always pour
And only ghosts knew
What was in store
